Grup Abdal is a group that interprets folk music in its own way. In 2011, Ali Ekber Kayış and Haluk Tolga İlhan founded the group. The motto of the group is "the effort and search for a new musical existence". They released two albums from Kalan Music record label. After the release of the first album, Haluk Tolga İlhan left the group after a disagreement broke out between the two founders. Due to the fact that Haluk Tolga İlhan applied to the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office without being aware of the other members and registered the Grup Abdal name on himself and had the name Abdal added to his own name, lawsuits were filed for the naming rights.
