Grup A1 (sometimes referred to as Grup A) was founded by Alpay at the end of the 1970s. Not much is known about the band. They released a single in 1979, titled Yeşil Gözler Sürmeli / İçimde Dinmez Sızısın, which was composed by Zafer Sağlıksever. Alpay recorded four of his albums with them during the 1980s. One of their songs, which stands out the most in the Anatolian rock era, is called "Neptünlü Sevgilim" (en. My Lover from Neptune). It is a strange and unique psychedelic rock song, featuring a female vocalist and utterly fantastic, futuristic lyrics in both Turkish and English.
