Born and raised in Virginia, Grunge had become equipped with his street knowledge he picked up from his father. Grunge upbringing could be described as the modern version of traditional lower middle- class families. Grunge lived a normal life, but don't think he’s talking the same talk other rappers tend to have. But, at the same time, the family didn't live it up. His mother would have to patch his pants so the holes wouldn't show. Grunge went to school on a normal basis; on the weekends, Grunge father would take him to Norfolk out the park; (projects). This is where Grunge learned what the streets were like. His father told him, “these are your people and you have to know them.” You could end up here and you can have family here. Grunge witnessing the lives of family living in the ghetto reflected in his music. Though, he attests that he learned more from in the streets living in Virginia Beach. There are many that would call Grunge hardcore, but he sees himself as the voice of those who are the “victim of circumstance.” Good or bad. Early on, Grunge would rap and compare himself to his counterparts on the radio. He would listen to his own (music) and compare it with the guys getting radio spins. As he got older he started to notice that he was better than a lot of those guys. Listening to a few of Grunge songs, one would see that, like humans, he can contradict himself.
