NY-based hard rock band formed in 1985 by guitarist Jimmy "Mack" Makowski and drummer David Leeds. The band released a three-song EP in 1986, and a full-length recording entitled 'Go For Your Guns' followed the next year. After various lineup changes, singer Billy Kohout joined in 1988 and the group released another EP, 'Partners In Crime'. This recording featured the radio singles "Shy Boy" and "One Track Mind" and gave Grimm Jack national attention with regular features in CIRCUS, HIT PARADER and other prominent publications. By 1990 the band was one of the hottest items on the east coast music scene, and had earned a solid reputation as a live act. The release of 'Jailhouse Tattoo' that year gave Grimm Jack their biggest radio hit, a southern bluesy-style tune called "Maybelline." JAILHOUSE TATTOO sold a respectable amount , and the group was voted "Band Of The Year" by EAST COAST ROCKER magazine. In 1991 the band signed a preliminary deal with a major label and spent several months recording new material. After re-recording and remixing, the final product was submitted to the label for approval, but put on hold for nearly half a year. The label eventually decided to withdraw from pursuing the project any further due to the rapid changes in the music scene. By then the "grunge invasion" was in full force and straight-ahead rock bands like Grimm Jack were quickly losing ground.
