Originally Greenhouse Lounge was born out of a modern dub womb, incorporating reggae and skank grooves to a hook-laden pop sound. However, influenced by the rise of the progressive jam-electronica scene, McSweeney (bass) began to tweak his approach with methods of low-end modulation. Drummer Hunnicut was simultaneously enveloped in developing his style of metronomic beats and stutter-step breaks that would soon cozy up to McSweeney’s devilish ideas. DeCastro, already an accomplished steel-pan player and utility musician, began to incorporate triggered samples and layers of synth to his already evolving bag of tricks. In May of 2009, the landscape of GHL changed remarkably when the original three madmen welcomed two ripe and motivated talents to their conglomerate. New keyboardist Brandon Wilkinson’s strengths lie in synth and electronic composition, and his mind-bending additions have fulfilled the Lounge’s sound and size with new dynamics. Guitar prodigy (and resident youngster) Zach Weinert is a secret weapon of sorts. Almost everyday, the axe-slinger unveils deeper and more profound annals of groove within his playing. Weinert’s ability to straddle the line between traditional guitar prowess and progressive sonic wizardry has the masses excited for the future of this now five-piece collective. Greenhouse Lounge has been lucky to join progressive live-electronic artists and reggae-influenced performers on a variety of bills this past half-year; the likes of Pretty Lights,
