Gravity Cafe is the newest foray into genre-bending music by Philadelphia-born composer Dan West. Dan first started arranging and composing electronic music sometime in the early 90's utilizing 8-bit .mod trackers shortly before pentium pc's went mainstream. The focus was mostly on big-beat and techno. Dan (having previously been a saxophone, bass, and guitar player) also started playing in bands ranging from funk and acid-jazz, to hip-hop, rock and metal around this same time in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. Around 2002 Dan started experimenting with composing electronic music again on computers and keyboards, but this time with the goal to not stick to any specific genre, but to incorporate everything learned from years on the road with bands, and jamming with any musician that was up for it. Gravity Cafe was born in 2005 when Dan's original two musical obsessions (golden-era hip-hop, rock, and jazz) started smashing up against his drumandbass, idm and trip-hop compositions. The result wasn't forced, nor could it be helped. It was different enough from his earlier electronica compositions, penned under his real name, to be considered something completely new and the results became a full-time musical endeavor. Gravity Cafe is as much about the atmosphere created by the music, as it is about each individual note and sonic nuance. Gravity Cafe is the sound of a almost tangible place within music, a musical crossroads that you can almost visualize when you close your eyes, r
