Pianist Rubén González was first recorded in 1943 with Cuban innovator Arsenio Rodriguez, el Ciego Maravilloso. He accompanied many other musicians in their musical endeavors. In 1998, he came out of retirement to play on the Afro-Cuban All Stars album with World Circuit, which later asked him to make a solo debut. And of course, he was a part of the famous Buena Vista Social Club. Buena Vista founder and musician Ry Cooder described him as ". . . the greatest piano soloist I have ever heard".
