Gold Beach is the musical experiment of Tony Daugherty and Michael Winningham. The two friends started writing together at the age of fourteen in Tony’s parents house in Houston TX. Many songs were written in those seventeen years, most of them are still hiding on a hard drive in Michael’s home. Habibti, is the first collection of music the duo is excited to introduce to the world. While making these recordings, a distinct personality emerged, something cohesive and yet distant and odd. Each song added a new, and yet unexpected, piece of the overall picture. After two years, it was time to let go of the writing and recording process. Eleven of the twenty-five songs were sequenced, and the two songwriters quickly set out to put a band together for live performances. Much local talent is associated with the Gold Beach project, including: Jeremy Gomez (x-Mineral, the Glass Family), Carlos Orozco (x-Western Keys, Black Drum Set), Nicole Kern (x-Balmorhea), Evan Jacobs (Tacks! the Boy Disaster, Polyphonic Spree), Andy Sharp (Girling), and Henna Chou (x-My Education). 2011 proves to be a jumping off point for Gold Beach, with performances leading into and at SXSW, a Daytrotter session, and a listening party in Austin for the new record. KUT’s David Brown called Habibti, one of his most “anticipated records of 2011.” Habibti is sold at shows and on-line only as the band seeks representation. Please look for us both live and on-line throughout the year! Contact: Michael at
