Glaswald was founded at Shrovetide 2004 by Martin Pohl (synths) and Wolfgang Kirchheim (guitar) in Basel. Begun as a psychedelic ambient adventure the sound of the band has evolved with Siegmund Køb on the bass and the use of electronically or acoustically generated beats, now including aspects of techno and space rock. Hypnotic Basslines merge with the sound of analog and digital keyboard instruments as well as spherical guitar sounds which sometimes seem to originate rather from a synthesizer than an electric guitar. In this constellation danceable passages stand naturally beside noise and atmospheric tone painting. All concerts and sound-recordings of the formation are basically improvised and, hence, unique – a musical expedition for the audience just as for the band members themselves.
