about

Giovanni Nicolò Mezzogori (Comacchio, Emilia-Romagna, 1580 - 1623) was an Italian Baroque composer. Nothing exact is found about the ancestry and social conditions of his family. The stages and characters of his career and the ecclesiastical composition are deduced from nine musical works, however, the dates published between 1611 - 1623 prepared by the publishers of Venice and usually accompanied by letters doviziose with dedication. It dates back to 1611 the first book of sacred concerts in two, and three articles, printed - like the following three - by Ricciardo Amadino and comprising thirty-six motets where almost all combinations of vocal registers are practiced, in a writing often omorithmic but animated by imitative cues and Vocalise passages : these styles of ordinary Proto-seventeenth-century practice later meet with stability in Mezzogorri's poetics. This first work bears a dedication to Monsignor Orazio Giraldi , Bishop of Comacchio, to whom the author attributes many, et non vulgars favors [...] above me will not say scattered, but it rained in the years of the greener [...?] age passed to his service, and even the subsequent appointment to the description of the place and chapel master of the cathedral comacchiesa. Collections of Mezzorori's publications: Mass. Motetti e un Miserere a quattro voci (Venècia, 1614 ): La celeste sposa, terzo degli concerti con mottetti (Venècia, 1616 ), Salmi festivi vespertini concertati a quattro voci (Venècia, 1623 ), etc.
