Giovanni Francesco Giuliani ( Livorno , 1760 - Florence , 1820 ) was an Italian harpist, composer and conductor. Born in Livorno in 1760, in Florence he studied violin with the great Nardini , where he became one of the most distinguished pupils, and counterpoint with Bartolomeo Felici . Giuliani's entire career took place in Florence where, young, held the position of first violin at the New Theatre, and where he was conductor of the Theatre of the Intrepid, 1783-1798. With his long teaching spread and kept alive the tradition of the violin school of his master, Nardini, in turn concertmaster of the court orchestra commissioned by the enlightened ruler Pietro Leopoldo , Grand Duke that favored the production of art in Tuscany so as to give an international cultural breath to the small but refined court Fiorentina, connected to Vienna. Among the most important events in music, there were the "first" Italian of the great orators of Haendel , made in advance of Vienna, the representation of ' Alceste by Gluck, the academy given by young Mozart in 1770. Giuliani was formed and was active in this happy fact of culture and music, rare in Italy, and if the composer never crossed the borders of Tuscany, he did his music, which was also published in Paris , Berlin, London and Amsterdam. The work of Giuliani "reveals the assimilation of the galant style of his teacher Nardini, made of formal rigor, clarity plant tonal smoothness of the melodic line." Giuliani was also the teacher of
