Artist
Ghost Tones A new collaboration between Maya and g-muva exploring afro-beat and hip hop dub in a pacific context. The crew is currently recording an album at New Lynn Sugarlicks central through the loving valves. Their debut single "Irie Is Everything" was released on Ultrasound vol 1 and featured Fijian artist D Kamali. Their second single and video is released on ultrasound 2017 - "material girl". Lead singer & Haitian native Maya has spent some time in NYC where he was integral in establishing the main stay that is now the Central Park weekend drumming sessions. An accomplished voodoo rhythm drummer, he came to NZ and worked with Karlos Quartez in the house combo, Kaya. In 2001 he hooked up with producer and musician g-muva to start Ghost Tones. The resultant album is due for release 2006. Collaborations on the album include Levani Vosasi, D Kamali, Ladywise & Solarsista. The vibe of the group is a fresh take on global hip hop with Pacific style elements, broken beats and Maya's trademark smooth bilingual (english, haitian french) rap. In June 2005 the band completed a tour of Dublin, London, Berlin and Tokyo.
