Artist
Gert de Meijer (Terneuzen, 1953 - Vlissingen, 27 December, 2006) was a Dutch 6 and 12-string guitar player. In 1976, at the age of 22, De Meijer made his first album with Munich Records/Stoof. After that, a number of releases followed (no record company). In 2000, German record company Acoustic Music Records released the album 'Behind the Dunes', which was followed by 'Acoustickled' in 2003. In 2005 De Meijer released 'Spirit of the Turtle'. De Meijer's roots were in folk and blues, but along the way he became a very versatile guitar player, using many different techniques. Inspired by great artists like John Fahey, Leo Kottke, Bruce Cockburn and Richard Thompson, he created his own, unique style. On 27 December, 2006 he died at the age of 53, after only a short illness (lung cancer). User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
