Gerry Stanek is a singer, songwriter, teacher, and author based out of Greensboro NC. Born on December 30, 1962, in Spangler PA, he spent most of his early life in the small coal mining community of western Pennsylvania which he chronicles in his books, They Came Here Looking for Light: The Plattsville Stories which was published on June 18, 2019, and Loud and Sure of Myself published on August 29, 2020. In addition to his two books, he writes short stories and music. His debut solo album, Heart in Peril released in July of 2022 and a later EP Grease and Dust and Blood released in September of 2023. He previously played in and toured with the band The Lost from 1990 until 1992 with frontman Luke Janklow. They toured the US extensively even opening for acts such as The Black Crowes, Cheap Trick, The Ramones, Mr. Big, and Kings X. With Epic Records, The Lost released a self-titled album in 1991. Though their first single "Mindblower" was in heavy circulation on MTV at the time the song, album, and band have faded into obscurity. He has also toured with The Outcry in support of the 1997 album This Side of Anywhere and Norman Nardini. Stanek's influences include Rockpile, Elvis Costello, JD McPherson, and Creedence Clearwater Revival who are reflected in his music extensively.
