Artist
Gerhard Rosenfeld (born in Königsberg, Germany 10 February 1931 - died in Rebrücke, Germany 5 March 2003) was a German composer. His most well-known works are his first violin concerto (1963) which marked his breakthrough and the opera 'Kniefall in Warschau' (1997) about the German politican Willy Brandt. Gerhard Rosenfeld was born in Königsberg (now in Russia), but in 1945 he moved to the Soviet Zone of Germany, which became the German Democratic Republic (DDR) in 1949. He studied music at Humboldt University in East Berlin and, after graduation, under Hanns Eisler. Apart from operas, symphonies, concertos and chamber music, Rosenfeld also composed several film scores for German films.
