Her nurseryclass teacher was one of the first to notice Gerbrich van Dekken's (1980) talent when she wrote her schoolreport back in 1984. Her words:"Gerbrich likes to sing, and she prefers singing solo. When she doesn't remember the words to the song, she makes up lyrics of her own." Clearly, Gerbrich van Dekken was destined to be a singer, and since 2001 she's been performing on stage with her trusty guitar and lots of country songs. After having sung for years while doing the dishes and in the local gospel choir, she started taking guitar classes. In 2001 she was confident enough to perform at the Easterbarren, a street festival in het home-town Eastermar (the Netherlands). In 2005 she met Frisian singer-songwriter Gurbe Douwstra at one of her gigs, and together they started performing Friesian folk music. Gurbe had made a translation of Alison Krauss' A Living Prayer, which became Mear As In Freon. They recorded the song in 2007, and in that year it reached number 53 in the annual Friesian Top 100-list. In 2008 Gurbe and Gerbrich teamed up with guitar-dobro-accordion-player Jan de Vries (The Feetwarmers) and banjo-virtuoso Johanna Van Der Veen - Hamstra (Ex-Stroatklinkers) to perform as "Gurbe en Freonen" (Gurbe and Friends). In August of 2008, Gerbrich recorded the song "Bisto Foar My", which was released as a free download on her website and now on Last.fm. But who is she?
