Artist
Georg Zarth (also known as Georg Czarth / Jiří Čart, 1708–c.1780) was a Bohemian violinist–flautist whose career threads through the big 18th-century court circuits of Central Europe. He first learned from the cantor Lukas Lorenz in Deutschbrod/Havlíčkův Brod, then continued via Prague to Vienna, where he is reported to have studied violin with imperial court musicians Franz Josef Timmer and Johann Otto Rosetter, and flute with Biarelli. From Vienna he formed a long professional association with Franz Benda, travelled to Poland (including Warsaw service), and later entered the circle of Friedrich of Prussia in Ruppin and Rheinsberg before moving to Berlin in 1740; he eventually joined the Mannheim court orchestra in the late 1750s and remained there into the 1770s. A concrete print trace of his music in this run is the 6 Violin Sonatas, Op.2, listed with first publication 1753.
