Artist
Genevieve grew up in Southern California, listening to artists such as Face to Face, Jawbreaker, and The Dead Milkmen. She began playing piano at age seven and guitar at age ten. Her first live performance was in 1995 with The Thought Police during her senior year of high school. Genevieve has played both rhythm and lead guitar with several punk bands, including The Gotards from Chicago, IL and a brief run with Affinity Zero from Riverside, CA. The Gotards were together for over six years and played a multitude of venues all over the Midwest. They released two albums (Doing Time and The Gotards) and were on a compilation called Midwest Rules Vol. 2: You’re Weak – We’re Strong on the Haunted Town label. An independent film called Doing Time: The Story of the Gotards was previewed at The School of the Art Institute Chicago in 2005 by filmmaker and author Andrea Uptmor. In 2008, as her personal style evolved, Genevieve began writing and singing her own material. From this evolution came her first solo album Playing Small, in 2010. A move to the East Bay (and a broken heart) helped advance her style into more sophisticated works for her second album, the Ouch EP, released in 2011. "With Ouch, I was working through a lot of internal pain. The feel of the music is unpolished and rushed, but when it comes to pain I'd rather get it out and move forward than let it keep shelter in my heart." Genevieve is currently writing material for her next album which will be recorded at Fantas
