Artist
With Augury, her first album under her own name, Geneviève returns to her primary instrument, the nylon-string guitar she fell in love with when she was 13. She composed a bunch of songs in 2011-12 while still in Montreal amidst a whirlwind of musical activities with her other projects. After moving into the woods with her Menace Ruine partner S. in 2014, they took a distance from public musical life. The peace and quiet she found there rekindled her love for classical guitar and she recorded 13 songs from this repertoire in 2017‑18, surrounded by her beloved cats. Augury is the first part. The lyrics slowly emerged over the following years, infused with her life in the woods and her deep connection with the natural world, especially birds and other animals. While her creative work in Menace Ruine is driven by an exploration of distorted and evocative sounds from which songs are born, powerfully led by her distinctive voice, her solo album takes a more traditional and stripped-down approach. The songs are driven by melodies with minimal arrangements to preserve the purity and singularity of her voice and classical guitar, creating a dreamy atmosphere.
