Doni Helms, who writes, produces, and records music under the stage name Gary LaDon, is also an accomplished musician, poet, songwriter, and singer, and has performed at countless venues nationwide since he was a very young boy. He made his debut television performance at age eight after winning a local talent show, and performed with several of the great gospel music groups of the time including The Happy Goodman Family, and the Florida Boys Quartet. Later in life, Doni became the lead singer for The Cavaliers Quartet, and performed with them until around 1973. Doni recorded five albums with The Cavaliers, one of which included one of his original songs, widely aclaimed as one of their best ever. The Cavaliers Quartet performed concerts with such names as The Oak Ridge Boys, The Masters Quartet, The Kingsmen, The Dixie Echos, The Statesman Quartet, and many other legendary gospel groups. The Cavaliers were regularly featured on the national gospel concert and television circuit. Doni contributes his ability to hear and sing harmonies to the training he received while singing with The Cavaliers Quartet. Doni has worked since the early 80's as a first-call background vocalist for major and minor recording studios on both coasts, and has been fortunate to have worked with some of the finest producers in the recording industry. His latest television appearances were as a three-time winner on the now defunct Nashville Networks "You Can Be A Star". These performances were
