Gary D. is the German DJ and producer Gerald Mahlke. He started DJing at the age of 16 in 1980. During the late 80s he came into contact with house and acid music which changed his style. Up to that time he mainly played black music. He became resident DJ at the "Unit Club" in Hamburg. During that time he also released his first production: Identity EP in 1991. After the Unit Club closed its doors in 1994 he went to the "Tunnel". This marked the starting point of Gary's as well as the Tunnel's success. The style of his sets and his productions developed into hardtrance. In late 1995 he released the first issue of the D.Trance compilation series. Up to today the compilations are a big success although the style changed from hardtrance to anthem and vocal trance during the years. He also continued with own productions and has until today released four albums and dozens of singles.
