about

Garry Jones was a bass guitarist of such versatility that he was equally at ease backing jazzer Annette Peacock as Chuck Berry. The quality of his own output, whether solo or in the context of a group, also argued a talent far above the ordinary. Garry's was an academic success story too as he entered Liverpool's Waterloo Grammar School a year early and gained an honours degree in Latin at Lancaster University. In his final years, a scholarly nature dictated multi-faceted research into such disparate subjects as post-medieval icehouses in the environs of his home in Arborfield, Berkshire, and an intriguing new angle on the origin of Shakespeare's plays. why this is interesting

# Garry Jones This album rewards attention for its rare demonstration of musical intelligence applied across genres—a bassist comfortable in jazz complexity and rock directness, yet with distinctive compositional vision. What emerges is neither fusion nor dilution but a coherent artistic voice grounded in genuine technical mastery. The work reflects an inquiring mind equally engaged with historical research and creative experiment, suggesting music made from genuine curiosity rather than commercial calculation. The craft throughout is unshowy but precise, allowing ideas space to develop naturally. For listeners seeking substantive instrumental work that resists easy categorization, this represents the output of an uncommon musician operating at full intellectual and technical capacity.
