Artist
Gail Priest is a Sydney-based sound artist, writer and curator. She is interested in releasing the hidden melodies and broken beats found in raw sonic material. She manipulates field recordings, random instruments and the tortured voice to create works that explore the fine line between pleasure and pain. Her atmospheric adventures incorporate dirty machinic rhythms and bass-heavy pulsations contrasted with glassy cascades and occasional sweet slippery vocals. Her sound compositions have been included on compilations such as 'New Weird Australia Vol 5' (New Weird Australia), Explorations in Sound Vol 3 (Further Noise), ‘Transit' (Cajid) and 'Melatonin' (Room40) both with Lawrence English. In November 2010 she has released her first full length album for Endgame Records. In 2006 she released 'Imaginary conversations in reverberant rooms' and in March 2010 she released a CDR-EP 'Fear of Stranglers' both on her own own label Metal Bitch Recordings.
