Gagarin Kombinaatti was a short-lived industrial act that featured Mika Vainio, Janne Koski and Tapio Onnela. Inspired by the noisier aspects of earlier industrial groups such as Throbbing Gristle, Einstürzende Neubauten, and Test Dept., the trio recorded bracing and frequently chaotic material during the 1980's, abusing such instruments as drums, synthesizers, electric drills and scrap metal, but didn't issue anything during their existence. During the 90's, Vainio became a revered experimentalist as one half of Pan Sonic, among other projects and solo outlets. In 2016, the Puu label – Jimi Tenor's subsidiary of Sähkö Recordings – released 83-85, an anthology of Gagarin Kombinaatti recordings from Vainio's cassette archive.
