Gaetano (Gaspare Giuseppe) Chiabrano (Turin, February 9, 1725 β Torino, c. 1802) is an Italian cellist and composer. Gaetano Chiabrano (sometimes Chabran, Ciabran, Ciabrano) came from a family of musicians, including his father, who was the violinist Giovanni Nicola (c. 1686β1776) and his brothers were the guitarist Giovanni Francesco Benedetto, author of a method, and the violinist Carlo Giuseppe Valentino, who played eleven times at the Concert Spirituel between April and June 1753. He probably began his violin studies with his uncle, Giovanni Battista Somis, before learning cello and double bass. At the beginning of 1735, his father and his uncle arranged for him his first position in the orchestra of the Turin Opera. From the December 27, 1752, he is employed as cellist and double bass player of the royal chapel and member of the chamber orchestra of the king of Sardinia, but he continued his work in the theatre. He went on tour and went to Paris and played at the Concert Spirituel in 1755 and at the Paris Opera and six of his sonatas were published there before 1780: Sei Sonate a violoncello osia fagotto and basso. Then, he probably joined his brothers in London in 1784. The same year, he was the "Chabran" who played at the Concerts of Ancient Music. David Wyn Jones, however, specifies that the list is that of violinists, not cellists. Other sonatas were published in London in 1767 and 1785 by Bremner.
