The violin and viola players provide particular scope for playful expressiveness by playing standing up. Originally founded in Berlin in 1991 under the name Gaede Trio, the ensemble in its current line-up with Thomas Selditz (violin), Felix Schwartz (viola) and Andreas Greger (cello) have been playing together since 2006. It has now been renamed the Streichtrio Berlin. The Streichtrio Berlin has recently focussed on French composers. In April 2011, the trio released a CD with works by Françaix, Jolivet, Milhaud and Roussel (Crystal Classics (Delta) label); a second CD with piano quartets by Chausson and Fauré will shortly be published by the same label. Numerous recordings with Sony/Japan, Largo Records and Tacet have also been re-released, which were published under the Gaede Trio name. Particular highlights include the trio’s recordings of Beethoven, the Goldberg Variations and the string trio ‘Le Chimay’ from Eugène Ysaÿe,
