Gabriel Plautz (first name also Gabriele ; surname also Plautius, Plautzius, Plavec, Plautzio, Blautz, Plantz ; surname Carniolus; born probably around 1585 in Ljubljana, Duchy of Carniola, Inner Austria; died January 11, 1641 in Mainz) was court conductor and composer in Mainz. There is no reliable information about Plautz's youth and education. Because of his style, it is believed that he received his training in Italy, possibly with Ruggiero Giovannelli. On April 10, 1612 he became court music director in Mainz at the court of Elector and Archbishop Johann Schweikhard von Kronberg, where he succeeded Jan Le Febure.
