Gabriel Coste was a musician and composer active in Lyon and Florence in the second quarter of the 16th century. As Dobbins points out, no concrete trace of Coste has yet been found in the Lyon archives. However the surname is well attested in Lyon, and the fact that Coste set to music two stanzas from Bonaventure des Périers , an epigram from Pernette du Guillet and an extract from La Parfaicte amye by Antoine Héroët clearly shows a Lyonnais attachment. He could be the "Costo musicho" who figures in a list of Cardinal Alexander Farnese 's friends compiled in Florence in 1544, along with ten other musicians (including François Roussel).
