Bands that have helped shape the direction of the music Gabby Hayz creates are vast and varied for all four members; some might be obvious while others are a bit more subtle. The influences of such heavy hitters as The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, and Rush are possibly quite apparent in many of Gabby Hayz' songs. However, there are many other players and bands that the members greatly admire and respect, all of whom add a hint of flavor to the mix as well - such as Robin Trower, Frank Zappa, Blues Traveler, Ian Moore, Tea Party, King's X, Sonny Landreth, Cheap Trick, Tool, Zebra, etc.. The combination of these great influences have inspired and allowed Gabby Hayz to make original music that displays their influences, yet still moves forward with fresh, new ideas. This has resulted in a wide palette of sounds and styles that include, among other things, both straight-up acoustic and celtic-flavored, folkish songs ("June 9th"); heavier, riff-based tunes ("Sins & Signs"); and bluesy slide jams ("Porchbored"). Various open and alternate tunings also give the music different timbres and voices ("Montague County" and "Little Ivy"). The result is the recently-recorded & released CD entitled Keepsake, (Available Now!!) that will prove other types of music still are played in Louisiana besides Swamp Pop, Cajun and Zydeco. http://www.myspace.com/gabbyhayz User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
