Fyodor Akimenko (1876-1945) was a Ukrainian composer, pianist and musicologist. He studied with Balakirev, Rimsky-Korsakov and Liadov and was subsequently a teacher and then professor, at the Petrograd Conservatory. He was Stravinsky’s first composition teacher. His musicological work included many articles in the Russian Musical Gazzette and his compositions included an opera (The Snow Fairy) some tone poems for orchestra and many more miniature pieces such as songs and chamber music.
