Funeral in Berlin formed in the summer of 1992. The band was one of many that would become part of the backbone of the San Francisco goth scene. Along with other local bands such as Switchblade Symphony, Xorcist, Malign, Galaxxy Chamber, Mute Angst Envy, Shadow Project, Kill Sister Kill, Ghost Like Sun, The Shore of Deprogramming, Tel Basta, Communion, Anguish, and numerous others, Funeral in Berlin helped shape the music culture in the San Francisco Bay Area. Influenced by the likes of The Cure, Bauhaus, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Joy Division, FIB left a path of dark and gloomy music still remembered by a small army of devoted followers, to whom the band will forever be grateful. After drummer Alan Titus, and shortly afterward bassist Steve Scottorosano, stepped down, the two remaining members held the band together for several more years with the help of numerous other artists who took short stints with the band. These included Ron Coppetti, bassist for the ex-punk legends The Authorities, and drummer Phillip Martinez, who had also joined the band earlier while Steve Scottorosano was still an active member. Several years later, keyboardist David Oswood also stepped down, leaving vocalist/guitarist Ted Ringgold as the only remaining member.
