Yoshie Fujiwara (藤原義 Fujiwara Yoshie) was a Japanese tenor singer who was often referred to as "Warera no Tenor " Our Tenor. He was born December 5, 1898 in Osaka, Osaka Prefecture, Japan and lived until March 22, 1976. His mother Kinu Sakata was a geisha in Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture. His father, Neil B. Reid, was Scottish. Yoshie's mother died in his youth, and Reid remained a bachelor all his life. So he was adopted by Tokuzaburō Fujiwara from whom he received the family name "Fujiwara". Fujiwara took part in the fifth and sixth Kōhaku Uta Gassen. Between 1927 and 1930 fifteen operas were broadcast on a series of radio programs directed by Iba Takashi with accurate introductions and were very well received by the Japanese audience of the time. It was in this favorable climate that Fujiwara established the Fujiwara Kagekidan (Fujiwara Opera Company) in 1934 and rose to be a notable figure of Japanese opera history.
