Frei.Wild (pronounced FRY-vilt; "Frei" means "free" and "Wild" means "wild") is an Italian rock band from Brixen, South Tyrol, Italy. The band’s members belong to the German-speaking population of South Tyrol, and their songs are primarily in German. The band was founded in September 2001 by Philipp Burger (vocals, guitar) and Jonas Notdurfter (guitar), with Jochen Gargitter (bass) and Christian Fohrer (drums) joining shortly thereafter. Early in their career, Frei.Wild drew influence from German-speaking bands such as Böhse Onkelz and Rammstein. Their first album, "Eines Tages," was released in 2002, followed by "Wo die Sonne wieder lacht" in 2003. The third album, "Mensch oder Gott," appeared in 2004, and "Mitten ins Herz" was released in 2006 after the band changed record labels. In 2007, the band released the live DVD "Von Nah und Fern," followed by the studio album "Gegen alles, gegen nichts" in 2008. "Hart am Wind" was released in 2009 through their newly founded label Rookies & Kings. Their 2010 album, "Gegengift," reached number two on the German album charts and earned a nomination for Best National Rock/Alternative Group at the 2011 Echo Awards. The 2012 album "Feinde deiner Feinde" also reached number two on the German album charts and was initially nominated for the 2013 Echo Awards, though the nomination was later withdrawn.
