Free Diamonds was a three-piece rock band formed in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. The group consisted of Scott Anderson (guitar, vocals), Dave Morton (drums), and Paul Cosgrove (bass, vocals). Emerging in the mid-2000s, the band signed to the independent label Deep Elm Records before releasing their debut album, There Should Be More Dancing, in 2005. This record introduced their style, which blended elements of post-punk, art rock, and dance-oriented rhythms, often incorporating shifting song structures, rhythmic experimentation, and prominent bass lines. Following their debut, Free Diamonds released their second full-length album, By the Sword, which expanded their stylistic palette while retaining their core rhythmic and melodic traits. Across their recordings, they became noted for alternating vocal delivery between Anderson and Cosgrove, as well as for integrating unconventional shifts between genres, tempos, and song structures.
