Frédérique Trunk, pianist, composer, arranger, singer graduated in 1986 from the Conservatoire de Musique de Strasbourg (France) with Honors in Piano, Theory and Chamber Music, and with a diploma in Musicology from the Université des Sciences Humaines de Strasbourg. In 1992, Frédérique came to New York to study at the New School’s Jazz and Contemporary Music Program with Kenny Werner, Fred Hersch and Maria Schneider and privately with Richie Beirach and William Allaudin Mathieu. As a soloist and bandleader, Frédérique has toured in Europe, Morocco, Japan, the United States and Canada. In 1996, Frédérique Trunk formed the quintet Myriade with pianist Ramzi Moufarej. With the unusual combination of two pianos, cello, oud/nay, and percussion, the group explores Jazz and Middle Eastern improvisational concepts in original compositions. CD Soukoun (2001). Continuously developing her own voice, she founded in 1998, Frédérique's Trio to present a completely new blend of Jazz standards and French songs. She released two Cds: Secret Love (1999) and “Paris- New York …and Elsewhere” (2006). In addition to writing for her own groups, Frédérique has been composing works for ensembles and orchestra combining Classical and Jazz concepts enriched by her diverse interests and influences. In 2000, she composed and performed the film score for The Sandman, David Teague’s silent film, First Prize at The New York International Independent Film and Video Festival in 2001.
