about

František Václav Habermann, full name Franz Johann Xaver Wenzel Habermann (born September 20, 1706 in Kynžvart, died April 7, 1783 in Cheb) was a Czech composer and teacher. He came from a family of musicians. He graduated from the Jesuit school in Klatovech, and continued to study philosophy in Prague. This period saw the composition of his first track. To benefit from more musical education, he went abroad. He first worked in Spain. In 1731, he entered the service of Prince Louis-Henri de Condé and became director of music at his court in Paris. He later obtained the same position as that of the Grand Duke of Florence in Tuscany. In 1741 he returned to Prague and became director of the choir of the Church of the Virgin Mary, and at the Church of Our Lady, Mother of Perpetual Help in Neruda Street. In addition, he taught prominent aristocratic families. Among other things, he was a teacher of Josef Mysliveček and Frantisek Xaver Dusek. On May 12, 1743, a comic opera was performed in Prague, written in honor of the coronation of Empress Maria Theresa (lost). In 1773 he returned to his native country and worked as regent at the church of Cheb. His brothers Františka Václava, Karel Habermann (1712 -1766) and Anton (1704 - 1787), were also composers. In addition to composing, he excelled as a trombonist. In addition, two of his sons were musicians. Matouš Habermann lived in Prague, but apart from some records of his high school education at the gymnasium, his life is not known.
