Francesco Paolo Tomaso Supriani (* July 11, 1678 in Conversano ; † August 28, 1753 in Naples) was an Italian cellist and composer of the Neapolitan school. From 1693 Francesco Supriani was a student of the Neapolitan Conservatorio della Piéta dei Turchini , one of the early virtuosos on the cello. He was the author of a handwritten, didactic collection of toccatas for this instrument with an explanatory introduction, the " Principij da imparare a suonare il violoncello e con 12 toccate a solo " from 1720, which was edited by the musicologist and cellist Luigi Silva (1903– 1961) were rediscovered in the library of the "Conservatorio San Pietro a Majella" in Naples and published. In this work, Scipriani uses the fifth position from the very beginning, as well as the bass and tenor clefs. Scipriani is considered one of the teachers of Francesco Alborea , also often called Franciscello.
