Artist
Francesco Giomi (Firenze, 1963), a musician and a composer, has been active long since as an author in the field of new technology. His works are regularly played in festivals and contemporary music concerts all over the world, and have been awarded and selected in national and international competitions. Since 2001 he regularly collaborates with the Virgilio Sieni Dance Company, composing the music for the Company's shows and performances. He's been visiting composer at the Music Department of Sheffield University (UK, 1997) and has been awarded at the CEMAT Composition Competition "Forty Years in 2000" (1998). His electroacoustic work Con brio, a GRM Paris commission in 2003, has been performed worldwide and has been awarded the first prize at the 2007 International Rostrum of Electroacoustic Music of Unesco. In 2005 he founded with Francesco Canavese and Giovanni Nardi the experimental and improvisation music group ZUM, which has been premièred at the Jazz & New Music Season 2005, Musicus Concentus, Florence. In 2007 he gave birth with Francesco Canavese to a new project, the live electronics duo SDENG. He is Professor of Electronic Music at the Conservatory of Bologna and Director of Tempo Reale, the center of music research, production and didactics founded by Luciano Berio in Florence.
