Artist
Francesco Eredi also Heredi (* around 1575 in Ravenna ; † after 1636) was an Italian composer, conductor and music teacher. Francesco Eredi's dates of birth are not exactly documented. The information of the assumed date of birth in sources are named October 10, 1575 and January 8, 1581, whereby 1575 is considered more likely due to Eredi's later work, which can only be proven in his hometown. In 1599 he taught as music master for a short time at the seminary in Ravenna. His first book of madrigals appeared in 1600. From 1621 he conducted the orchestra of the metropolitan church and was also involved in the musical arrangement of various church festivals (including in the churches of San Romualdo and San Giovanni Evangelista) but also involved in secular festive events in the city. In 1623 he published a collection of psalms dedicated to Cardinal Luigi Capponi and in the same year was appointed maestro di cappella at Ravenna Cathedral. The high point of his career was his appointment as Maestro di capella of Ravenna in 1629. Between 1630 and 1636 he also taught singing and playing the organ at the Abbey of Sant'Apollinare , where he was also responsible for musical composition. Nothing is known about the circumstances and the exact year of his death. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
