Francesca Nava d'Adda (Milan, 1794 - Milan, September 23, 1877) was an Italian composer. Daughter of Margherita Cagnola and the Marquis Felice D'Adda, Francesca was the protagonist of Lombard musical life in a period full of profound historical and cultural changes, between French fashion, the Restoration , the Risorgimento and the dawn of the unitary state . She first married her cousin Luigi Cagnola , a well-known architect much older than her and, after his death in 1833 , she began her artistic career, composing, in a first phase, variations for piano and fantasies for piano, flute and violin. In 1834 she married the architect and painter Ambrogio Nava , her same age, in second marriage, acquiring the noble title of countess, shown on the title pages of her compositions, published by the publishers Luigi Scotti and Giovanni Canti. The prestigious title of Honorary Member of the Congregation and Academy of Santa Cecilia appears next to the noble title . In fact, starting from 1836 , thanks to the policy of Gaspare Spontini , a considerable list of female names became part of the Academy: there are members of the nobility and good Milanese society: Queen Victoria , Maria Teresa Isabella of Austria ,Giuditta Pasta , Adelaide Ristori , Giulia Grisi , Caroline Unger , Angelica Catalani , Erminia Frezzolini Poggi , Marianna Barbieri-Nini , Maria Taglioni , Fanny Cerrito , Teresa Terziani . Milan was very active musically in those years and not even the Risorgimento uprising
