Artist
The Folkes Brothers were a Jamaican mento group, composed of John, Mico, and Junior Folkes. Their 1960 single "Oh Carolina" was the first hit song produced by Prince Buster and appeared on his Wild Bells label. Accompanied by Count Ossie's Nyabinghi drummers from the hills of Jamaica, the song is regarded as a landmark in the history of ska and reggae music. In 1994, John Folkes and Buster were involved in a legal dispute over the authorship of the song, after a cover version by Shaggy became an international hit. It was eventually ruled that Folkes held the copyright. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
