Formed originally as a three piece, ‘Fly on Byrd, fly on’ expanded to five to encompass extra instrumentation to fulfill their sound; eventually settling on its current line up in June 2013. Named after a post-war naval pilot, one who accidentally happened upon Arcadia, the band uses their music to personify this proverbial journey to utopia. Described as “aggressive post rock” ‘Fly on Byrd, fly on’ deliver a unique take on instrumental rock, blurring the gap between post-rock and metal. Two driven guitars in low tuning. Subtle chugging riffs juxtaposed against light, floaty and airy lead guitar. Melodies, swells and a thick wall of sound from the keys all whilst the drums and bass drive a syncopated but head-noddable rhythm with the odd sample thrown in for good measure.
