After he got his diploma of physics, the Greek musician Floros Floridis (born in Thessaloniki) studied classical clarinet as a student of Konstantin Ugureanou. As he said in an interview, that improvised music would be the music he respects the most, Floridis is mainly focused on this genre. A. o. he has performed and/or recorded with Okay Temiz, Nicky Skopelitis, Peter Kowald, Paul Lytton, Paul Lovens, Phil Wachsman, Hans Schneider, Louis Moholo, Vincent Chancey, Jean-Marc Montera, Milos Petrovic, Ivo Papazov, Ken Vandermark, Irene Schweitzer, Andrew Cyrille, Bauer Brothers, Evan Parker, Peter Broetzman, Guenter "Baby" Sommer, Carlos Zingano, Ahmed Campaore, Mathieu Chamagne, Andre Jeaum, Barry Guy, Savinna Yannatou, Dimitris Polizoidis, Babis Papadopoulos, Michalis Siganidis, Kostas Vomvolos and Ilias Papadopoulos. Besides performing, he has worked as a lecturer of improvisation and as a producer (a. o. Greek national radio ERT 2, j.n.d. records). Furthermore, he has directed (and founded) several jazz festivals (e. g. the Jazz and Improvised Music Festival of Thessaloniki) and composes soundtracks for movie and theatre. His latest composition is the soundtrack of Jeanine Meerapfel's feature film "El Amigo Alemán" (2012). In 1979, Floridis and Sakis Papadimitriou recorded the first modern jazz album that was produced in Greece - "Improvising at Barakos" (double LP).
