Francisco-based turntablist and producer, Flesh O.N.E. makes beats as meditative spaces, dark severe structures designed to be inhabited with inricate phrases of tech scratches. The production is functional and thick, multifluous, an aggressive engine surrounding and inspiring sharp rhythmic stories told with flares, crabs, and techniques still unnamed. Indestructible digital reproduction channels and focuses the contemplative degradation of vinyl. Encouraged to play music free and outside the rules at an early age, Flesh O.N.E. had jazz improv training on clarinet and trombone. A budding fascination with technology led to loud explorations in his parent’s basement with a single tape deck and radio shack mixer with no cross fade, pause-and-play style mixing. Flesh grew to see martial arts, skating, and mixing sound all as forms of meditation, eventually leading to a deep participation in each of the 4 pillars of Hip-hop culture. In a day when mastery of the turntable is almost a cliche, Flesh O.N.E. truly has developed a profound wisdom of the decks - radicalizing the artform by engineering his own custom mixer mods and yet developing intense spiritual self control through the rigorous practice and study of classic techniques.
