There are three bands named Five By Five, a 60's rock band from Arkansas, a jazz band, and an alternative band. Five by Five was a group that formed in Magnolia, Arkansas in 1967. The group was made up of Ronnie Plants (lead singer, guitar), Larry Andrew (guitar), Tim Milam (organ, vocals), Bill Merritt (bass), and Doug Green (drums). "Five by Five" was a jazz band founded by Kelvin Liu, with Sam Dickson in mid-2006. The pair met at school during clarinet instrumental lessons and had a mutual interest in jazz. Fast becoming friends, Sam and Kelvin attended a few school bands and ensembles together. During the course of their musical career they decided to perform on the streets for public donations and performance experience. Their jazz duets led them to discuss the possibilities of starting a band. Neil Skilton and Nelson Allingham were first approached as they were both friends of Sam and Kelvin and held an interest to becoming apart of a jazz band. Christine Wang was invited to join the band, but due to scheduling problems was unable to attend for later rehearsals. Sian Harrick was selected as the new pianist with her previous experience with jazz piano and Sharan Prakash was successfully auditioned into the band as the drummer. The name "Five by Five" was decided because of its colloquial meaning of everything being fine and its original meaning: "Loud and clear." Its also a term used in Joss Whedon's Buffy- a show that Nelson (the lead singer) and Kelvin are both fans
