On paper Firedrill! doesn't make sense. On CD Firedrill! barely even exists. Fortunately for the Boston-based septuplets, Firedrill! audiences leave shows with a clear understanding of what the group is about. Some call it, "Singing without music." Others note the ever-present mutual ex-girlfriend and the, um, unique chemistry that results. However you say it, Firedrill!'s focus remains taking seven voices, seven day jobs and a Honda Civic-full of unpredictability and making fun, classy music. The group favors dynamics over boyband-ish gimmics, contagious enjoyment of songs over color-coordination and (of course) men over women. I mean, uh, in the sense of who's allowed in the group. Except the ex-girlfriend, Sasha, who is the keystone of a fragile arch of entangled emotional baggage. Careful what you say, oh heckler..
