The opening riff from Finding Z's scorching "Throw Away" - off of their impressive full-length Make It Right - brings to mind all the best things about crunchy alternative power-pop from almost two decades ago. It's that kind of reverence, in addition to original energy and non-stop thrills that the band injects into their sound, that has kept their fans coming back for more throughout the three years that Finding Z has been rocking the Midwest. Having lived together in a self-dubbed "band house," while attending Purdue University, it's clear that vocalist Dan Swiss, guitarist Brett Davis, bassist Christopher Miller and drummer/vocalist Brent Beachler became close friends during that time period. It's there that the band's fan-base (self-proclaimed "Zed Heads") began to grow, and their history together only bolsters the monstrous riffs and positive vibes that are strewn throughout Make It Right: The southern chug of opening track "Better Off Dead," the almost-angelic backing harmonies on "Just Trust," a chance to get down on the funky "Mr. Wrong," or the thick introspection of the hovering "Black Notebook." Since Make It Right's release in April 2011, the band relocated to Chicago but continues to thrive on their tradition of playing every sort of venue one could think of: house parties, keggers, bars, even a deck on the coast of Lake Erie. But since calling Chicago home, they've also shared stages with some of the city's best up-and-comers, like Girl Detective, Fletcher an
