This three piece based in the Northern reaches of England have (in their opinion, granted) a bunch of songs which are worth lots of other people listening to. Trying to make musical comparisons is a waste of time. Energy, Melody, Beauty, with a dose of ugly will just about suffice. Sure there are guitars and drums, yes there are voices, and they use a smattering of technology and toys to assist. Originality is a dirty word and often used to excuse off the-wall unlistenable soundscapes, but not in this case. Whether or not Fifty Heads Wide are an original sounding band or not doesn’‘t matter, the fact is they sound like Fifty Heads Wide. And for them that is enough. This band are not interested in over-blown coverage, unsubstantiated rumours, and un-tangible hype bearing no resemblance to how they feel. This band don’t want hand outs from huge record companies. This band want to make records that aren’‘t sold on the merit of a cheque book, or the latest brand. of image. Building partnerships with those interested in producing real music is what this band feel is important. Without entering into the circus like antics of the majority of industry moguls.
