Christian Fennesz, Jim O’Rourke, and Peter Rehberg (founder of Mego Records) recorded two albums, The Magic Sound Of Fenn O’ Berg and The Return of Fenn O’ Berg, consisting of live recordings and concerts from 1999 – 2001. They used laptops to create sound collages and layers of digital distortion. The results of these experiments are slightly unsettling but unexpected, with waves of rhythmic pulse sounds and dark industrial noises juxtaposed with various samples, echoes, and snatches of string arrangements.
