Artist
Karindra Perrier is a songwriter, singer, ponderer, composer, impatient dreamer, physicist, ex-harpist, aspiring scientist or in any case a smart ass, and above all the artistic leader of Femme Vanille. Their second album ‘Another Time’ will be released in Januari 2016. New Album, new sound. Those who know Femme Vanille from their debut album will likely be surprised. Aside from their warm, dreamy sound the band now shows an alternative, edgy sound. The unpolished voice of Perrier brings to mind Fiona Apple. Raw melodies with airy vocals are being weighed against gritty drums. With this new record the Utrecht-based band reminds us of early St. Vincent records with influences of Patrick Watson, Feist and Regina Spektor. Along with Thijs Bastiaans (drums), Erik Brouwer (keys), Jesse Buitenhuis (guitar) and Thijs van Gemert (double bass), Perrier worked out nine songs in Studio the Church (Mister and Mississipi, Wende, Qeaux Qeaux Joans). The record was produced by David Hoogerheide (Rita Zipora, Cheaters, Krach) and mixed by Martijn Groeneveld (Dotan, Blaudzun, Janne Schra). The songs all share a moody, cinematic undertone originating from Perrier’s background as a composer for film, documentaries and commercials. During her internship at a New York studio she realised that writing and producing TV ad music was not for her. “When creating music I only want to write what I really want to write. Why else would I write music? It’s my passion, and compromises don’t go well with
